A few drawings from a recent wedding at the Westgrove Hotel in Clane. A thing about live caricatures is that sometimes they emphasise details that the formal photographs miss, like the distinctive glasses, or the expression everyone recognises.

These are some of the guests who sat for me during the drinks reception. Each drawing took only a few minutes. Three examples of what my caricatures look like, before they disappear into hotel rooms and the backs of cars.

Wedding Drinks Receptions around Ireland vary enormously, but the reaction to caricatures is fairly consistent.

2 seconds stare while they absorb it.

Then a scream of laughter.

Then closer inspection.

Then a half-serious argument over who get’s to keep it and if it should be framed.
